Retreat Day at St. Berbara Church – Old
Cairo

Shery for Development in corporation with Light For
Orphans organized a retreat day for gathering the people
serving the orphanages at St. Berbara Church Old Cairo.
Fr. Bishoy El Antony was the main speaker. Fr. Mikhael
and Fr. Gergues from St. Mary church Zeitoon participated
in addition to 58 persons from seven Churches as follows:
- St Mark Church Heliopolis
- St George Church Heliopolis
- St George Church Almaza
- Virgin Mary and St. Athanasius Nasr City
- Virgin Mary Zeitoon
- St. George & St Anthony - Nozha
- Shery for Development
The main points suggested were:
- To avoid using the term serving orphanages and
replace it with "Service of the Future Child".
- Provide Shery for Development with a data base
that include data of the children, names of orphanages,
who serve them and names of possible places for the
trips.
- Discover additional orphanages to be served.
- Focus on the importance of education and encourage
them to enter university.
- Give training courses for the serving group on
who to deal with these children.
- Send brief newsletters to the group to advise them
in their services.
- Open new channels for funding.
- Holding three exhibitions each year for the children
to choose their own clothes and needs (before Christmas,
Easter and back to school).
- Sponsor a child.
- Find new creative ways in serving.
- Put monthly plan and see how it is fulfilled.
- Develop and enhance the skills of the children.
Major donation, Major expansion
Light for orphans received a huge philanthropic donation
of 7.5 acres adjacent to the 13 acre headquarters.
Superbowl, Super celebration
With " GIANTS" spirit our church youth arranged
for a special occasion, fund raising getting together
to watch the 2008 Superbowl held at Dave & buster.
New beginning & commitment for life
October 2007 witnessed the first engagement of one of
our orphans girls with the matrimonial celebration to
be held in April 2008.This is a rather special occasion
for our organization because it embodies the hope that
we planned to install in the orphans hearts with your
support
Fund-raising Dinner
The event was held on Nov. 07 at St. Mary & St.
Antonio church, Queens, NY - it was a joyful event.
The Orphanages Serving Group had three conferences
at Fayed
- From 5-7 July 2007; 12 persons participated. It
was a preliminary conference for the leaders of the
groups.
- From 13-14 July 2007; 25 persons participated where
Fr. Bishoy El Antony gave a presentation for the orphan's
center.
- From 14-15 December 2007; 26 persons participated.
The main points discussed were:
+ Bible study for Nehemiah.
+ Organizing the service.
+ Why do we serve?
+ Devotion in the services.
